A few random facts and thoughts:

I drive a purple car, I have night-owl habits, and I live in a green town outside a red-white-and-blue, awake-at-the-crack-of-dawn city.

I've been keeping a diary off and on (but more on than off) since 1970. This is my public diary. If something's so private that I don't want anyone else to read it, I'll put it in my paper diary. It's also my personal diary; I may make occasional comments that mark me as a professional in a job that has something to do with both journalism and science, but I purposely keep such details vague to deter stalkers. (Ah, the curse of having an easy-to-Google name....) In "Unitarian Jihad," I'm known as "Sister/Brother Katana of Compassion."

How else do I define myself? I'm a Unitarian Universalist, a holder of two bachelor's degrees and one master's degree (geez, I have twice as much B.S. as most everyone else!), and a cat servant.

In the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) I'm known as Lady Patricia of Trakai, an apprentice herald from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, circa 1400 CE. I bear these arms: Gules, a comet fesswise reversed and on a chief Or three mullets vert. I've been in the SCA since early 2004, and I adore it. I probably write more LJ posts about the SCA than about any other activity, so be warned!

"But if by a 'Liberal' they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind,
someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions,
someone who cares about the welfare of the people --
their health, their housing, their schools,
their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties --
someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad,
if that is what they mean by a 'Liberal,'
then I'm proud to say I'm a 'Liberal'."
